Although an American by nationality, he is from a family of Irish, Norwegian and German ancestry. He was raised with an older brother named Chris McPartlin in the loving arms of Lois McPartlin and Stephen Emmett McPartlin.
Ryan completed his high school level education in Glen Ellyn, Illinois from Glenbard South High School. The actor later enrolled at The University of Illinois for his higher education and majored in Speech Communication.

Together, Ryan and his wife have two children; sons, Wyatt Duke McPartlin (12) and Dylan James McPartlin (9). Interestingly, his partner, Danielle is also an actress and an entrepreneur.
Along with his wife, Ryan founded an LA-based food delivery service, Plate Therapy in 2015. They started the company after Danielle suffered from a thyroid disorder and went through constant fatigue and weight struggles.
