Annabella Sciorra Adds Up To Harvey Weinstein Scandal! Accuses Him Of Rape
After remaining silent for more than 20 years, Emmy Nominated actress Annabella Sciorra revealed that she got raped, as well as sexually harassed by Harvey Weinstein during 1990’s, in an interview with The New Yorker on Friday, October 27.
Annabella Sciorra had appeared in the movie called “The Night We Never Met” around 1992, which was backed by Harvey’s then company Miramax. Annabella had known Harvey a few years before the incident; they met at screenings, dinners, and events.
During one of such meetings, Harvey suggested to give her a ride home. Revisiting the unfortunate evening, Sciorra said,
“Harvey had dropped me off before, so I didn’t really expect anything out of the ordinary – I expected just to be dropped off,”
Harvey bid her goodbye, and Annabella went to her apartment and got ready for the bed. A few minutes later, she heard the knock at the door and went to attend it. Annabella explained,
“It wasn’t that late ... like it wasn’t the middle of the night, so I opened the door a crack to see who it was. And he pushed the door open,”
She continued,
“[Weinstein] walked in like it was his apartment, like he owned the place, and started unbuttoning his shirt. So it was very clear where he thought this was going to go. And I was in a nightgown. I didn’t have much on,”
She then realized that Weinstein had left to take a circuit to assure that they were alone. When she told him to get out of her apartment, but he did not leave.
“This is not happening. You’ve got to go. You have to leave. Get out of my apartment.”
Following that, Weinstein cornered Annabella in her bedroom and went on to rape her. She cried, yelled and fought but lost to Harvey.
Media mogul Harvey Weinstein was the man in power, so fearing that he might destroy her career, she kept quiet and never reported the incident to the police. At the time of the rape incident, she was a married woman with her husband, Joe Petruzzi. The pair were a married from 1989 to 1993.
In the following years of the incident, Annabella’s work dried up, and she had no work from 1992 to 1995. However, she later bagged a project ‘The Innocent Sleep’ in 1996 and went to London. But, Harvey did not stop bothering her and began calling her in his hotel.
Annabella said Harvey even sent cars to the hotel and one night he came and pounded on her room’s door. Similar incidents continued to happen, but the incident of the year 1997 was the worst as per Annabella.
Harvey was in the room adjacent to her's at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. One early morning, she heard knock on the door. Recalling the moment, she exclaimed,
“There’s Harvey in his underwear, holding a bottle of baby oil in one hand and a tape, a movie, in the other. And it was horrific, because I’d been there before,”
Annabella ran for the phone in her hotel room and dialed numbers; Harvey left only when a hotel staff arrived.
Weinstein, who is blamed for sexual abuse and sexual harassment by at least 50 women, denied all the accusations of nonconsensual sex. Recently, Weinstein went for a week at therapy after initial allegation.
Following the sexual harassment reports Harvey Weinstein has been fired from his company and also his wife, Georgina Chapman left him.
