Scottie Nell Hughes has recently filed a case against the Fox News with claims that the channel leaked her name and that it retaliated against her.

She alleges the network for taking the side of Charles Payne, who allegedly raped her in July of 2013 and had kept a coerced sexual relationship till 2016 which ultimately led to her termination.

Lawsuit Against Fox News

Hughes filed a lawsuit against Charles Payne, Fox News, its parent company 21st Century (FOX) and the law firm Paul Wiess that did the investigation on the matter back in July.

She also claimed that the network’s spokesperson Irena Briganti leaked her name to the National Enquirer when she wanted to remain anonymous as a victim.

On July 7, news of Payne getting suspended surfaced amid an investigation regarding the sexual harassment allegations made by Hughes, the company released a statement and initiated an investigation.

Payne came clear from the investigation, making all the allegations made by Hughes nothing but false words and an act of defamation and publicity stunt.

The suit claims,

"Despicably, Fox leaked Ms. Hughes's identity to the National Enquirer at the same time that it emailed a self-serving 'statement,' purportedly drafted by Payne, that expressed his sorrow at having engaged in what he described as an affair with Ms. Hughes."

Hughes claimed that she continued a sexual relationship with Payne to secure multiple appearances on the network and with the hopes that Payne would help her get the role of a contributor.

Fox News recently dismissed Hughes’ lawsuit that Douglas Wigdor represents by releasing a statement,

"The latest publicity stunt of a lawsuit filed by Doug Wigdor has absolutely no merit and is downright shameful. We will vigorously defend this."

On the other hand, Payne, who previously acknowledged having a romantic relationship with a married woman, is now defending himself claiming he did not have any wrongdoing in the matter. A statement released by Payne’s attorney said,

"We are confident that when the evidence is presented in this case, Mr. Payne will be fully vindicated and these outrageous accusations against him will be confirmed as completely false."

On September 8, after coming clear off of all the allegation, Payne returned to hosting ‘Making Money’ on Fox Business.
