It came after he signed a 5 million deal with the Shandong Golden Stars of Chinese Basketball Association last year. Shandong Golden Stars released Cole on November 30, 2016.

After failing to attract any sort of interest in free agency this summer, Cole then headed to the CBA in October but returned from there in December after sustaining an injury. Moreover, he was said to have retained the ability to breach the contract if he had the opportunity to return and join an NBA team.
He averaged 19.1 points in the nine games he played overseas. He also netted on 28.6 percent of all his three-point attempts and served out 4.3 assists a night.
Furthermore, the last NBA team he donned the shirt of was New Orleans Pelicans where he arrived in February 2015 as a part of the Goran Dragic trade and played 73 games altogether for the Pelicans over the course of a season-and-a-half.

Norris Cole is a two-time NBA champion with the Miami Heat, winning the illustrious title in 2012 and 2013. The legendary Chicago Bulls first drafted Cole in the very 1st round of the NBA Draft in 2011 as the 28th pick out of Cleveland. But following a series of draft night deals, Cole's rights were subsequently traded to the Timberwolves of Minnesota, who then drafted him to the Miami Heat.
On 5th of October, 2016, Norris signed a $5 million worth deal with Chinese Basketball Association giants Shandong Golden Stars. He played a total of nine games for the Golden Stars before he was released on November 30, 2016.
