Afton Smith herself is an established American actress in Hollywood. But she will always be remembered as Brendan Fraser’s ex-wife and rightly so. The proof behind it is Afton demanding $900k per year from her former husband as part of a divorce deal.

Afton Smith neither had a blissful acting career nor a pleasant marriage. The couple went well to an extent and later ended in chaos. Yes, she married a Hollywood celebrity like herself.

Afton Smith married American-Canadian actor Brendan Fraser in 1998 after dating him for four years. Their wedding was held at the garden of Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles.

The couple welcomed their first child, son Griffin Arthur Fraser, on September 17, 2002, followed by the second son, Holden Fletcher Fraser, on August 16, 2004. Afton and Brendan later gave birth to their third child, Leland Francis Fraser, on May 2, 2006.

Afton Smith's Divorce and Alimony Controversy:

Their marriage, however, could hardly last a decade as the couple announced to split in 2007 after 9 years together.

Their divorce was finalized in 2009. The divorce deal asked $900,000 per year to be paid to Afton whereas her ex-husband Brendan agreed to pay $300,000 annually in child support.

By the time got divorced, Brendan’s purple patch days were already over. Although he was certainly busy with TV engagements and movies, he was not in demand at that moment, it !in the late 90’s.

When the couple divorced, his net worth was estimated to be only $45 million. Hence, it was a hefty alimony. But the couple did have the custody of three boys.

The Mummy star filed a plea in Connecticut in February of 2013, asking the court to decrease $50,000 monthly alimony he was obliged to pay, citing he wasn't getting enough acting jobs to come up with the cash as he did in 90’s.

As a response to Afton's plea, Afton hit back with more allegations shortly after Brendan’s request made the news claiming that he was hiding his money and was still more than capable of continuing his alimony payments. The whole affair was real nasty one.

Afton stated that the alimony could only be reduced once Brendan earned less than $3 million a year and that hadn’t been the case, according to her.

Usually, alimony payments are made for a particular time or until ex-partner remarries. And since Afton is still getting the alimony it is clear that she is not married and why would she?

He strongly denies hiding property from his ex-wife and children, insisting many 'medical issues' affected his earnings. The star reportedly suffered a 'debilitating' back injury during the devastating Hurricane Sandy in 2012, which resulted in huge medical bills for himself.

Having been through all these tantrums, I doubt their relationship will ever be calm again.

The actor has also been tangled in an expensive and bitter legal dispute with Todd Moyer.
