It is understood “Comedy comes from a Dark Place.” If this is true then, the funniest comedians are the ones with a darker life. Sheryl Underwood is a well-known comedian, actress, and host but she has had her fair share of darkness in her life. Learn about all the tragedies that struck her life.

We all see her on-screen as a comic personality but in real life, she is a courageous woman inspiring people to be a survivor and not the victim. One of the most devastating events that profoundly affected her life was the death of her husband. Learn about this and much more.

Husband’s Death!

Sheryl Underwood has been an excellent edition to ‘The Talk’ since her debut in 2011. Over the years she has helped generate a lot of laughs but also been a cause of the most emotional confessions on the show as well. She once again shared a heart-cringing experience on the show about the experience after the death of her husband.

Married Life, Husband, and Divorced?

On a September 2011 episode, she spoke about her husband who had committed suicide years ago. They were married for three years and before their marriage they had dated for seven years.

Her Wikipedia also mentions that the cause of his death was probably clinical depression. In the show, she shared how she coped with the situation and handled the haunting of the dreadful experience. It is morose to think about how far their marriage could have gone. Perhaps a relationship that would have never ended in a divorce.

Traumatizing Childhood:

This was not the only emotional experience Sheryl shared with the audience in the show, ‘The Talk.' She also made a shocking revelation on September 13, 2013, during ‘Secret Week.' She was the last co-host to share her secret and what she revealed left audience open-mouthed.

She shared about her traumatizing childhood because of family problems from the death of her twin sister to her violent mother. After explaining how comedy to her was a way of spreading happiness so that no one would have to deal with sadness like hers, she continues hardly holding her tears back in an interview on 'The Talk' published on dailymail.co.uk on 2013 where she said;

"I was born a twin, and we were premature,"

She explained.

"We were both in the incubator. What you don't know is I carry her birth certificate around because she did not live." holding out the certificate to the camera.

She also explained how this haunted her throughout her life especially because her mother kept blaming her father and accused him of killing her twin sister by suffocating her after he "propped a bottle up for her to take." “My birth mother did not want me and my father to be close to each other so she would tell me that my father killed my sister,” she shrugged

Sheryl could have grown up believing that as well but one day she saw her birth mother stab her father in the back. Since then she has worked to mend the relationship with her father. She also proved her as a survivor and not the victim by adding,

“The reason I am telling you ladies this is because every day we are here, we try to laugh, we do know and love each other, and every day somebody is going through something, and every day, I wish my sister could be here.”
