He played a season as a college player at Ohio State University, where he became a Big Ten Champion. Moreover, he ended up being the runner-up in the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship.

On the back of the staggering numbers he had as a college player, he then earned a big call and was the first overall draft pick for the Portland Trail Blazers back in 2007. But then fate took a twisted turn! In September 2007, he underwent microfracture surgery on his knee, and as a result of that, he missed the entire 2007–08 NBA season.

However, that was not it for the seven-footer as he came back after recovering from injury and then debuted on the opening night of 2008 NBA season.

But he was then waived off of the Trail Blazers squad after he kept on getting injured which enabled him to get signed to the mighty Miami Heat on August 7, 2013. Miami signed him for a base salary of $1,027,424 and a cap hit of $884,293.

However, Oden was not able to make the kind of impact Miami fans expected, and he ended up playing only 23 games for the mighty team. Then he tried his hand at the Chinese basketball scene where he played for the Jiangsu Dragons from 2015 to 2016.

But everyone thought that his injuries would force him an early retirement, and that was exactly what happened! Greg Oden retired back in 2016 and said he is never coming back again.

He said,

"It's over - I feel too much like an old man."

Claims were there that injury is what led to his ultimate downfall and had it not been for the injuries, he would have boasted better overall stats as a basketball player.

Despite getting injured on frequent occasions and his career being cut short by those injuries, he was able to earn a good sum of money, and his career earnings helped him enough to boast a staggering net worth of $15 million.

Accused of Punching His Former Girlfriend.

Back in 2014, Oden was surrounded by the issue of punching his former girlfriend in a heated exchange for which he was arrested for and charged with battery. The incident as per some sources took place at around 3:30 a.m. in the 7200 block, Maple Bluff Place. A witness explained,

"He punched her in the face,"

Oden too was apologetic to all this and stated,

"I was wrong, and I know what has to happen,"

Nice to know that he owned up for his wrong doing!
