Even a casual tennis fan will easily recognize Samantha Jane "Sam" Stosur, former World No. 1 in doubles . She faced many struggles for the rank she has laid her hands on.

Because of her game and hardworking nature she has bagged the title of "Former World’s Number 1 Tennis Professional Player in doubles."

Stosur's inspiration for tennis came from a Christmas gift she received at the age of eight, a tennis racket. After that, at the age of 13, she took off to Indonesia to play World Youth Cup, her first overseas trip as a tennis pro.

Stosur debuted as a professional tennis player in 1999. She played in the 'Women’s Tennis Association tour' in 2000 but failed to join the Australian Open. In 2001, she won 4 titles straight. Year by year, she faced some downfalls but continued to receive titles. In late 2006 she was ranked 29th in single and 1st in double in the world ranking.

Stosur is now 32 years old, this means that she is approaching towards the near end of her career. We ought to mention that she still has a terrifying gameplay, her natural abilities combined with the focus on her training should let her stay as a capable player for some time. She is struggling to move her rank up which means that she will continue to play in 2016 and beyond.

After some years, 2011 made her rank at number 6th in world's single ranking. Later as 2013 winds down she started loose her rankings as it used to be. She finished 19th   in 2014 and 27th in 2015. She is pretty struggling to move her rankings up and finally made her 500th career win in 2015.
