HBO's Looking star Russell Tovey also falls under the category of the celebrities who is believed to be gay just because of the gay characters that he has portrayed.  Is he a gay in real life or is he covering the role just to uplift his career? Let’s find it out

Straight or Gay? Has his gay character helped him to build his career?

One of the hottest eye candies from Hollywood, Russell is openly gay. He had shattered many hearts when he performed a romantic scene with his partner on 'The Pass.' where is totally nailed portraying the character of Jason.

Russell, who came out as a gay at the age of eighteen (though he realized his sexuality by fourteen) believes that his gay portrayals have helped him to uplift his career. In an interview with The Guardian, he said-

“It wasn’t a conscious decision and it was only the other day that I realised it had been important somehow. For so long, as a young actor, I had this anxiety about making sure I could get straight roles, and now I know that’s not necessary. The gay roles are the best for me. Being gay has made my career.”

“And it’s made me realise that just like there’s not just one way to play a straight person, or one story to tell, there are a billion fascinating, wonderful stories to tell with gay characters. A billion adventures to have.”

He has also played a role of gay man in Quantico named Harry Doyle. Likewise, some of his other popular film credits and Tv series are Being Human (2008-2012), The History Boys (2006) and Sherlock (2012).

During an interview in 2016, while talking about his character Jason, he revealed how he opened up about his sexuality. He said-

“I think growing up I absolutely tried to become hyper-masculine” I think when I was younger I was a lot freer. So I related a lot of that side to Jason, to his pretence.I was never tortured about being gay in the way that Jason is.”

he further added;

“I was watching the film Beautiful Thing on TV. My mum came in and I turned it off and when she went to bed I turned it back on. I remember thinking ‘OK, that’s it’. “It’s like someone had put their hand on mine and said ‘there you go’.

finally, he said;

“Honestly, it’s the best thing that ever happened to me, being gay,’‘It’s made my career.”

There is no doubt that playing many gay characters has definitely uplifted Russell career in the industry and also has increased his gay fan base.

Entertaining a boyfriend in the real life?

Russell seems to be very busy inclining his career to the summit of success portraying different characters. Thirty-five years old heartthrob has always tried to maintain privacy in his relationship status but recently he is found to be in a committed relationship. However, his boyfriend is mysterious. In one of his interviews, he was asked about getting married where he said he is “thrilled by the advent of gay marriage”.  Furthermore, he said-

 “Totally, 100 per cent I will do it, when the time is right.”

He also said that he has planned for children. Describing it, he told-

“Yeah, all of it. But I’ve got my dog at the minute — he’s my everything, my sun and my moon and my mate.”

However, Russell has a successful career where he not only enjoys a wonderful salary but also has a large number of fan following. Through his prolific career in the industry so far he has managed to have a  net worth which is estimated to be around $4 million.
