Standing high at the height of five feet and six inches, Mara Liasson was born on June 13, 1955, in New York City. She is an American citizen and belongs to White ethnicity.

This journalist completed her schooling from Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, New York. She was a bright student in her school and was one of few students to create an experimental democratic community, the Scarsdale Alternative School.

After completing her school, she joined Brown University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the class of 1977 in American history.

She also got awarded with Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism to study for a year at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, which she attended in 1988.

Mara got associated with National Public Radio in 1985 and acted as the NPR's White House correspondent from 1992-2001, and received the White House Correspondents' Association's Merriman Smith Award for daily news coverage for 1994, 1995 and 1997.

During her early tenure, she has also covered the six presidential elections in 1992, 2996, 2000, 2008 and 2012.
