It may come as a shock, but Keshia Knight Pulliam, the child star from The Cosby Show who played the role of Rudy Huxtable got divorced from her husband just six months after getting married. We saw Trevor Engelson’s short married life that lasted for only two years, but Pulliam’s married life just broke its record. Let’s find out what caused the rapid breakdown of her married life.
The Reason for Sudden Divorce:
On New Year’s Day, January 1, 2016, Keshia got married to the former NFL star, Ed Hartwell after a short dating period of 4 months. However, the marriage barely lasted half a year as Ed Hartwell filed for divorce on July 25, 2016, at the Georgia’s Fulton County Superior Court citing irreconcilable differences like disagreements on a life changing decisions that couples typically make together.

The stranger thing is that Ed filed for the divorce and demanded Keshia to go under a paternity test just days after Pulliam announced on her Instagram that she is expecting a baby and was pregnant.
While she gave a surprise to her fans and loved ones, her husband added up to it as he filed for divorce within weeks of her announcement. However, she said that she was not aware of her husband's actions.
Upon digging deep, both Ed and Keshia were accusing each other of infidelity where Keshia did not have any strong reasons to hold on whereas, on the other hand, her ex-husband had plenty.
Ed explained that right after the wedding; Keshia turned aggressively fixated on having a baby that he thought she would do anything for it and suspected she did it behind his back. In an interview with Page Six, he said,
“she wanted a baby really fast, and what I was trying to explain to her was that — from my beliefs, from seeing other successful people — that when you first get married, especially since we didn’t have a long courtship, that we should actually focus on each other and not just have a baby. That’s something she did want to do.”

He further showed that even though he filed for divorce six months after getting married, the marriage broke down just two months after the wedding. Keshia and her former husband had a sit down in February and discussed how their lives headed two different ways.
Hartwell, who shares a nine years old son from his previous married life with Lisa Wu wanted to build a more romantic relationship with his Keshia before thinking about having children. He stopped making love to Keshia after she insisted on having a baby and started to disappear for days without any notice and that is when Ed questioned her faithfulness.
“I can’t say she’s been unfaithful. I can say she stayed out, she does not come home, she goes out-of-town … for three days, I don’t know what’s going on. I can say that.” he continued, “I can’t say she was unfaithful. I can say she wanted to get in vitro; I can say she wanted to do some things to make sure she got pregnant. I just want to make sure it is mine.”
Ed also denied Keshia’s allegation of infidelity on Entertainment Tonight and defended himself by accusing her of lying to make herself look better in public view. He ended the interview with Page Six saying if the child is his own, then he will love the child till death and also mentioned that he did not want to make things all public.
Keshia’s Reaction After the Divorce:
Keshia who admitted that she was unaware of the fact that her husband filed for divorce now has now moved on with her life, accompanied by her still unborn baby daughter Ella with whom she shared a sonogram image.
She was surprised with a baby shower by her friends and family a month ago and is now gracefully continuing her life saying,
“This has been this single most challenging year of my life.”
The divorce has not reached any conclusion yet, and no news about Keshia going through her paternity test is out.

Keshia Knight Pulliam has a very extensive and prolific acting career since her childhood that undoubtedly includes her starring in The Cosby Show (1984-1992) which made her the youngest ever nominated for an Emmy award. Apart from her hit contribution in the NBC sitcom, Keshia has also worked in House of Payne (2007-2012). Her other known works include Beauty Shop (2005), and Madea Goes to Jail (2009).
