A California native, Susan was born in Encino, Los Angeles as Susan Tinker Hirasuna. She celebrates her birthday on 9 June every year. After her family moved to Simi Valley, Susan spent the rest of her childhood at the city.

The reporter boasts Asian ethnicity derived from her family, but she is a Christian by religion and an American by nationality. Even at the age of 59, she gets to spend her time with her parents; both of them are alive.

Talking about her education, she learned Communication and Media Studies from the University of California and later received a degree in Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southern California.

Post the completion of her education, Susan joined KCRA-TV in 1988 and worked at the network for four years. Seeking better opportunity, she left her previous job to serve as an anchor for WLVI-TV's Sunbeam Television in 1992.

She was eventually recruited as a reporter on KTTV Fox 11, where she reached the prominent heights of her career. Due to her experience, she earns way more than the average salary of a Fox News reporter, which is $56,434 per year.

For her career, Susan has traveled around the world in pursuit of breaking news. She even visited Japan in 2012 to report on the rebuilding process after the 2011 tsunami.
