On 26th January 2020, Vanessa lost her husband, Kobe Bryant, in a tragic accident.
Vanessa's husband, Kobe, and daughter Gianna (Gigi) died in a helicopter crash in the hills above Calabasas.

According to reports, Kobe was on board with eight other people, including his daughter Gigi, while the Sikorsky S-76 helicopter crashed and burst into flames.
Further, it has also been reported that Kobe was on the way to his daughter Gigi's basketball match at the time of the crash.

Vanessa and her late husband Kobe met in November 1999 while Vanessa, who was a model at that time, was working as a background dancer on the Tha Eastsidaz music video G'd Up. Coincidentally, Kobe was in the same building and working on his debut music album.

The couple finally tied the knot on 18th April 2001 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in California.
But their wedding was not exactly a happy occasion as Kobe's parents and all his close people boycotted the wedding. Reportedly, Kobe's closed ones were concerned about him getting married too early, and Vanessa rejecting to sign a prenup agreement.
However, the sourness between Vanessa and Kobe's family ended after a few years.
