Reports broke out in April of 2016 that she and her boyfriend has been spending a holiday on BBC’s expense. She is none other than Hotel Rwanda’s star Sophie Okonedo.
Holiday with her Boyfriend!
As revealed by dailymail.co.uk in April this year, the BBC blew thousands of pounds, on a holiday for actress Sophie Okonedo and her boyfriend,
The broadcaster used license fee payers’ money (BBC) to pay for a pair of business class flights along with her boyfriend so that they could go whale-watching and wine tasting in South Africa’s Cape Town. Sophie was also seen in BBC1 drama Undercover.
The BBC also expensed on Miss Okonedo’s boyfriend, a mysterious man known only as John – out to meet her after the shoot of Undercover in Johannesburg, so that they could share their romantic time together. Afterward their pretty time together, it flew them back to London in business class and that too all at license fee payers’ expense.
The BBC did not disclose how much it spent on the tickets, but two one-way business class flights from Cape Town to London cost is estimated to be around £5,000 on British Airways, and that is equivalent to the cost of 34 television licenses.
The BBC defended their actions in a statement:
In line with industry practice, the BBC will on occasion agree to pay for a spouse or partner of a leading actor to travel in a premium economy when they’re filming abroad owing to the unsociable and unpredictable hours actors work over long periods. In this instance, Sophie requested that instead of her flying business and her partner flying premium economy, they would both fly out premium economy and back in business so that they could fly back together at no extra cost to the production.
Married Life, Husband, Divorce, and Daughter!
Sophie and her former boyfriend Irish film editor Eoin Martin gave birth to their only daughter, Aoife. There are no records of them getting married as husband and wife or getting divorced. Aoife Okonedo Martin was born in June of 1997. She has also said that she will not upset her daughter at any cost.
I guess I'm up for grabs now, so long as they don't upset my daughter - I'm quite strict about that.'
