Larry King Talks On Lung Cancer Surgery! Says It Was Unexpected

The veteran broadcaster, Larry King, 83, recently opened up about an unexpected happening from his life.

Speaking to People on 13th of September, he told that he underwent a secret surgery after his physician found initial symptoms of lung cancer during a routine appointment in July.

Larry told the publication:

“I didn’t have any pain, but when they took a chest X-ray the doctor said, ‘There’s a little cloud here.”

Later, when he underwent a CT scan and a positron emission tomography scan, doctors diagnosed him with stage 1 lung cancer.

He further gushed to be lucky enough to have the check up earlier,

“They said I was lucky and smart to get annual chest X-rays because lung cancer doesn’t give you any signs until it’s in late stages. And by then it’s too late.”

Before he went under knives and scissors, Larry got permission to jet off on a two-week European speaking tour after his diagnosis. Later, he returned stateside for the surgery to have the malignant mass removed.

He also tried to explain all the process from inside the operation theatre and told:

“They went in through my ribs with a tiny camera and snipped it out. I only had a little pain and some shortness of breath but once my speech is back full — and that took about a week — I went right back to work.”

Now, he is opening up about the health to spread a profound message, in the hope that his health scare will make others aware of the necessity of having regular medical checkups.

He expressed:

“When I had my heart attack and was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes [in 1987] and prostate cancer [in 1999,] I talked about it and felt that I helped a lot of people. I want people to make sure to get annual x-rays.”

According to the doctor's reports, the TV and radio icon, Larry got the disease as a belated result of his longtime smoking habit; when he even smoked three packs a day.

He also added to his previous statements and said:

“I never thought it would happen to me. I saw all the warnings but I never paid attention. I loved smoking but when I had the heart attack that February of 1987 I stopped that day and never reached for one again. It was easy for me because I got scared to death.”

Larry seems lucky for he doesn't have to face the future deadly situation. Well, we should certainly consider the word of Larry for having regular health check-ups, which would genuinely help in early diagnosis of the menacing diseases.

This TV star at his young age of 9 has even lost his father, Edward Zeiger due to a heart disease.

Talking about the marital life of Larry, he has been married eight times, twice to the same woman. He is now with his seventh wife, Shawn Southwick as he announced the separation with the previous one on April 14, 2010.

He and his wife, who is a former singer and TV host, also share two kids named Chance and Cannon King.
