The Life of Late Comedian Sean Lock Whilst Battling Cancer For Two Decades

Comedian Sean Lock died due to cancer at age 58. He had been battling skin cancer after being diagnosed since 1990. 

Lost A Battle To Cancer

The 8 out of 10 cats star Sean Lock passed away on August 2021 alongside his family. A statement published by his agent Off The Kerb Productions read,

"It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Sean Lock. He died at home from cancer, surrounded by his family." 

His death has brought immense sadness to the industry that thrives on making people smile. 

The comedian’s close friend Lee Mack is heartbroken by the news and says that he will miss the larger-than-life comedian. He quotes,

“I’ve known this day was coming for some time, but it’s no less heart-breaking. A true original both in comedy and life. I will miss him so much.”

Richard Osman, TV producer, and an author, also tweeted in deep sadness,

Since his passing away, the Twitter world has been mourning a great loss in the industry. His fellow comedians have been heartbroken by the news and are pouring their tributes to the comedian.

"It's heartbreaking to lose my dearest friend Sean Lock, he was a true original, a wonderful comic. All my thoughts are with his family."

Said his fellow comedian Bill Bailey. 

Burden Of Over Two Decades

The late comedian battled cancer for over two decades. While talking to Daily Mail, the comedian mentioned that he became aware of his symptoms after spending the night with a woman named Tina. She allegedly alerted him about the mark that was on his back. 

He quoted-  

“She said there was something weird on my back I asked her what it looked like, and she said it was a patch of skin that was black, misshapen, with a crusty texture, and about the size of a 10p piece.”

He revealed that after all the talks, he visited a dermatologist and removed the part of the skin. But that was also the day when the biopsy revealed that he had malignant melanoma (skin cancer). 

Who Was Sean Lock? 

Before earning fame as a comedian, Sean worked as a builder, but after entering the entertainment industry, he started to work as a standup comedian and headed for tours worldwide.

From his live tour, he won the "British Comedy Award" for Best Live Comic in 2000 and released a DVD of his two stand-ups in the year 2008, "Sean Lock Live and Lockipedia," which got completely sold out.

He has also worked in a famous network like Channel 4 and has even hosted a show, “Argumental.”

Aside from the tour, he has appeared on many TV and radio shows, which include: This Filthy Earth, 15 Storeys High, 15 Minutes of Misery, and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

He was also voted the 19th greatest stand-up comedian in Channel 4's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups in 2010 and was 55th in 2007. He was also part of Channel 4's comedy panel game show 8 Out of 10 Cats as the role of a "team captain" from 2005 to 2015. 

The British Comedy Award winner (2000), Lock, was a married man who held his family very dear.

Who is Sean Lock's wife Anoushka Nara Giltsoff?

British Comedy Award-winning comedian Sean Lock was married to his spouse Anoushka Nara Giltsoff. He shared three children with his Anoushka. The couple welcomed their firstborn son in 2009, whereas their two daughters were born in 2004 and 2006.

Having suffered from malignant melanoma at an early age of 27, Sean and his wife were alert in protecting their children from the disease. While talking to a source, he said:

"My partner Anoushka is excellent about sun protection, and if it's hot, she makes sure she puts SPF50 cream on the children before they step out of the house."

The happy family of four had always been close with each other. However, when the British comedian had to go for long tours, his wife always felt a void in the family.

Sean never revealed any pictures or details of his spouse and children. He always kept his family matters concealed to exclude his family front from the media approach completely.

The Legend of the comic industry might be with us, but his hilarious personality and art of making people laugh will forever live on.
