Family And Growing Up
Jimmy was born to Dabney Fortune and Odie Fortune on 11th March 1955 in Williamsburg. He currently ages 66 years-old.Â
He grew up alongside eight other siblings in Nelson County, Virginia. His mother was a devout Christian; she got all her nine children to sing at a church. Because of this, a love for singing was engraved in Jimmy’s soul at a young age.
He got his first guitar when he was 12 years old, after which he started playing and singing. It wasn’t long before Jimmy decided that singing was what he wanted to do in life. He started playing in clubs and events around Virginia. He also started making cover music.
Career, Replaced Lew DeWitt To Join The Statler Brothers
Jimmy began his professional career after auditioning for The Statler Brothers' temporary member in Nashville. He was selected to be the stand-in for Lew DeWitt, who was suffering from Crohn’s disease. Jimmy started performing with the band in 1982 and joined as a permanent member later that same year when DeWitt could not return to the stage.
