Inspired by her brother and mother - who loves swimming - Katie started taking swimming lessons from the early age of six.
A high school student at the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, she registered for the American and US Open record for the 500-yard freestyle breaking both of them simultaneously. Under the guidance of coach Yuri Sugiyama (then Bruce Gemmell) at the Nation's Capital Swim Club in 2012, her talent was further polished.
