But, even after getting multiple marriage proposals from Armstead, she denied. However, Patti changed her mind and eventually proposed to him instead. Finally, on 23rd July 1969, the couple officially became husband and wife.
Their marriage resulted in the birth of son Zuri Key Edwards in 1973. Furthermore, the pair also took upon the responsibility to look after Patti’s late sister Jacqueline’s children, son, and daughter.
She even adopted two children named Dodd and Stanley from a foster care home.

Unfortunately, in 2000, Patti and her former husband Armstead got divorced amicably after realizing "they didn’t want to grow old together." Even after going their separate way, the formerly married pair remain good friends. The ex-couple celebrated Armstead's birthday together on May 2019, along with their grandkids.
Interestingly, the music icon did not give up on finding love at the age of 75. She started dating Eric Seats, then 44 years old singer and drummer.

Now at the age of 77, the star singer is no longer with her ex-boyfriend and stated, “I still have time to find a husband,” she also exclusively told The Post in 2019: “I don’t want a boyfriend. I want a husband.”

At the height of 5 feet and 5 inches (1.6 meters), Patti was born on 24th May 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Patricia Louise Holte.
Her stage name LaBelle ( meaning beautiful in French) allegedly has a very racist origin. Well, it was adopted after one of her record executives suggested that her skin tone was too dark to please the audience.
Since she was working in the all-girl group The Blue Belles back then, the stage name stuck with her throughout her life.
The 75-year-old singer’s father, Henry Holte, worked as a railway worker and lounge singer, whereas her mother was a housewife. Her parents divorced, which left her single mother to take care of the family’s needs.
