One of the fan favorite character of Dancing with the Stars, Maksim Chmerkovskiy has suffered a calf injury, forcing him to miss Monday’s show, thereby putting him out indefinitely.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy was hurt during the rehearsals on 24th March and will not be dancing on the following episode of the show, as per the announcement made on Monday through Good Morning America.
Cameras were rolling when the horrible injury took place in the show, and Chmerkovskiy, 37, was mid-spin with his partner who worked in Fox musical comedy-drama series Glee, Heather Morris when he suddenly cried out in pain and clutched at his leg. He exclaimed:
“It’s my calf muscle. It just felt like something hit it.”
Chmerkovskiy appears to pull something in his calf muscle while dancing with Heather Morris and now he must sit out on tonight’s episode, with dancer Alan Bersten substituting in for him. Further reports surfaced from the People that Maksim Chmerkovskiy could be out for more than a couple weeks.
This kind of injury to one of the fan favorite like Chmerkovskiy could cost Heather Morris a lot of votes from viewers. It had happened before as well; when Derek Hough was injured and his partner Nastia Liukin didn’t last much longer in the show.
Chmerkovskiy’s injury reportedly occurred yesterday on 24th March, and after the mishap, Chmerkovskiy posted a message on Instagram which read:
Sorry I was MIA. Tune in to @dancingabc today and all will be explained. Tough show for #teamMaksimumHeat and @heatherrelizabethh would have to hold it down for both of us. Please show her your love and support while I work on getting my ass back to the ballroom. #DidNotSeeThisComing #WillBeBackBetterThanEver
Similarly, Chmerkovskiy’s partner Heather Morris also posted about the sad news online, drafting:
#todaystheday Im too sad @maksimc wont be on stage with me but my new partner @alanbersten and I are gonna make him proud Dont forget to vote!
Troupe dancer Alan Bersten will fill in for Maksim, and “GMA” explained that Chmerkovskiy would attend the taping and offer his support.
Get Well Soon, Mak!
