Harvey Weinstein Ousted From Motion Picture Academy! Another Action Amid Sexual Harassment Accusation

Harvey Weinstein is no longer the member of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as in recent events, the academy’s 54 member governors made their decision of expelling and stripping down any of Weinstein’s membership with the academy.

This decision results in response to all the wake of all the piling sexual harassment and rape allegations which dates back decades.

Recently, the 54- member governors of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science, which includes high profile names like Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Whoopi Goldberg, decided to oust Harvey Weinstein in an emergency special session, and the board made sure that the decision made by the two-thirds majority deemed effective immediately.

The academy said,

“We do so not simply to separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues, but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over. What’s at issue here is a deeply troubling problem that has no place in our society.”

This expulsion is the following result of Weinstein being fired from his own company 'The Weinstein Company' on Sunday night, October 8, because the company believed Weinstein voided the company’s code of conduct at some point of his tenure.

The entertainment mogul swamped into allegations after New York Times uncovered sexual harassment accusation charged against him, which later was backed by dozens of victims, which also included three rape charges.

While Harvey denies the rape charges, he confessed that his actions might have caused pain. While the 65 years old Weinstein is bombarded with expulsion by both Weinstein Company and Motion Picture Academy, his personal life is also disheveled.

Harvey Weinstein’s second wife Georgina Chapman; first wife being Eve Chilton Weinstein; has consequently decided to leave Harvey despite initially supported on the matter.

She said,

“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”

Moreover, Georgina is also recently facing slack in her fashion brand Marchesa, which Harvey helped build. Georgina’s fashion partner Keren Craig announced leaving the brand while a lot of her premium customers are backing off from the choosing the brands fancy and pricey clothing.

In awake of the actions taken against Harvey for all the accusation surrounding him, Goldberg encouraged women to stop keeping the misconduct within themselves. Goldberg said,

“We need to start talking to our sisters and say, 'You do not have to take this,’ 'Your career does not rise and fall on this. Because if you take this, people are going to assume that you're OK with the behavior.'"
