His father Kevin was also a football player who played as a Texas A& M quarterback from 1983 to 1986. But at the age of twenty-two, the elder Murray succumbed to a career-ending ankle injury, which ended his career.
After the career-ending injury, Kyler's father turned to corporate and worked in HR for sixteen years. But after sixteen years, he came back to sports and started coaching.
He trained football quarterbacks, including Kyler. It was his coaching and efforts that played a vital role in Kyler getting discovered at a young age.
