Ryan, age 38, and Sara knew at their first glance that they were meant for each other back when they met at an after party. The couple had an immediate connection which was there since the beginning of their meeting. They both knew there was something between them at a spiritual level. 

Despite Sara grew up believing that she would be one of those who would never tie the wedding knot, all her thoughts changed the moment Ryan entered her life. While the couple was on their vacation to Paris, Ryan did not want to miss a chance and presented his girl with a wedding ring asking her to marry him in June 2011.

Sara could not deny, and soon they were off to planning their wedding. A year later in July 2012, Ryan and Sara exchanged their wedding vows. They tied the knot in a beachfront ceremony on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day.

The business analyst and actress had an intimated ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Talking about the big day Sara opened up with Latina in its December /January issue, in which she divulged who incredible the first kiss felt after being pronounced as husband and wife. She said,

“There’s nothing like the first kiss once you’ve been pronounced husband and wife. It’s such a wonderful moment!”

Since then, Sara has a very romantic outlook on life and is happy focusing on the love that she has been surrounded by while having Ryan beside her.

Coming Out As Bisexual; Invests In Projects Relating To LGBTQ

Well, despite being married, Ryan's wife Sara came out as queer and bisexual. Sara, who has a net worth of $5 million, revealed the news during a speech at the True Color Fund's 40 To None Summit held in Los Angeles.

That was the first time that she had ever come out as bisexual publicly despite playing a similar role in Grey's Anatomy. She even confessed that she was afraid to come to as she did not want to 'impact her career negatively.'

But, now that she has departed from the show and publicly announced her sexuality, she wants to come back and join the cast of Grey's Anatomy. Sara has been currently working as a series regular on the CBS run show, Madam Secretary. But, she showed her intentions to return as Dr. Calliope 'Callie' Torres on the NBC series.

The discrimination that she would face inside and outside of Hollywood scared her, but despite it all, she stood tall. Instead, she now uses her platform to empower the people in the LGBTQ community.

Before coming out to the world, she first revealed it to her friends and family who were very accepting of her. And now being Ryan's wife, she stands for people out there who face rejection, exclusion, and various acts of violence.

Sara has spoken on occasions about the trauma faced by people of different sexuality and has even advocated against the discrimination faced by such people. In November 2018, for the event of Transgender Day, she led a candle march against the violence and rejection faced by people of various sexual orientations.

Though Ryan has yet to acknowledge Sara's activism publically, it goes without saying that he is very supportive of her wife's every move.

In March 2019, the former Grey's Anatomy star took to Instagram to celebrate the BiHealthMonth. Talking to her 800 thousand followers, she asked her fans to share stories of LGBTQ allies who stood for them.

Within minutes, her comment section got filled with heartwarming tales of their struggle. Over 100 people took the time to tell their stories.

Ryan and Sara's social activism, however, doesn't always bear fruit. The money that the actress donated to New York’s LGBT Community Center back in 2017 never got put to good use.

Upon refunding, Sara revealed that the donation - instead of letting it sit on her bank account - would go to BiNet USA - a non-profit that trains staff and volunteers at True Colors United.
