Taylor Rooks was born on 22 May 1992 in St. Louis, Missouri to Thomas Rooks and Stephanie Rooks. She comes from a family of athletes. Her father, Thomas was a former football player, and she is the niece of the Hall of Famer, outfielder, Lou Brock. It was probably her family's sports background that motivated Taylor to pursue a career in sports journalism.

Taylor graduated from Peachtree Ridge high school in 2010 and attended the University of Illinois- where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism.

During her time at the college, she covered and broke the story on football/basketball recruiting scandal while working with scout.com. That story initially opened her doors in sports journalism by gaining her internships in Sports Net Chicago and Fox Sports.

Today, she has networks like Big Ten Network and SportsNet NewYork in her resume.
